Freight forwarding plays a crucial role in facilitating global trade and logistics. However, as the freight forwarding market is extremely fragmented, freight forwarders often face the issue of not being able to fill the available shipping capacity.

In the IJCAI-24 work of Pang Jin Tan, Shih-Fen Cheng, and Richard Chen, we propose a collaborative game framework to model an open freight forwarding market. The major issue we aim to tackle is the computation of fair profit sharing based on Shapley values. To handle the combinatorial explosion of computational burden, we exploit the sparse nature of the freight forwarding network, and introduce the Locally Collaborative Games (LCGs) where agents collaborate only with neighbors. Our specialized algorithm for LCGs significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art approach for a wide variety of network structures.
